It isn't all about making recordings in the field. Our field meetings are held in (usually) self-catering accommodation and often on site to the recording locations (so that recordists don't need to drive anywhere). The informal nature of our meetings means that old and new members get to exchange experience and knowledge in a relaxed atmosphere. There is equipment to borrow and try out, there is help in identification, recording techniques and always snippets of useful information on what works (and what doesn't). Members who come along to field meetings usually get a lot more out of them than they were expecting and make new friends and long-term contacts!
