We are pleased to announce that we now have the Winter Meeting reorganised despite the earlier setback. The new venue is the Deepdale Granary Group Hostel (Deepdale Farm, Burnham Deepdale, North Norfolk Coast, PE31 8DD) based near to the original location. The dates remain the same, Fri 26th– Mon 29th February 2010, and we do still have a few vacancies, but any interested members should at this late stage first speak to me to clarify before sending a booking form. Burnham Deepdale is a new venue for WSRS, but if it proves to be as successful
as other new venues we have tried in recent years it should be a fantastic
meeting. The planned dates of Fri 26th– Mon 29th February 2010 coincide
with tides that should be favourable for recording wintering wildfowl and
in particular several species of geese
The spring meeting is scheduled for Fri 14th– Mon 17th May 2010 at Ennerdale
Cumbria. The Society has been to Ennerdale several times over the years,
but this time we will be using newly refurbished accommodation closer to
Ennerdale Water and further away from the river: so water noise should be
less of an issue. Few vehicles are allowed to enter the valley, thus traffic
noise and disturbance is minimized. In fact Ennerdale is the only Lake District
water which does not have public vehicular access. Added to this there is
an active group which is promoting the wildlife and conservation of Ennerdale
Water and its surroundings, so everything is in our favour for a wonderful
recording weekend.

The AGM for the past year, 2009, will be held on Saturday 3rd July 2010 at Cottesmore Village Hall, Rutland. This is a member's day as well as the official AGM. The competition prizes will be awarded at this meeting, and it will be a good time to renew old acquaintances, as well as a good venue for newcomers to the Society, to get to know other like minded people.
Further details and directions will be sent to all members in the next few months.
A change to the spring meeting routine was proposed for 2011 with a weeklong trip to Stokholm, and in 2013 with a further weeklong trip, this time to Islay, while in 2012 it is suggested that there be a long-weekend spring meeting, venue still to be decided.
